Gümüşlük House

Building Renovation and Extension | BODRUM

2020

The house presented itself as an empty shell, as the construction had been interrupted and only the walls and roof had been completed. Our project involved an extension on the main floor in order to add an extra guest room and a redesign of the whole building layout and landscape around it including a change in the circulation, a new patio and a new terrace.

All the interior spaces on split levels were connected by the central stairwell and existing staircase, therefore the decision was to use a design that would keep it light but at the same time givee it a strong presence to highlight this vertical connection. This open, flowing space was also maintained through the decision not to close off the master bedroom with a wall but to make it completely openable onto the stairwell, spaces below and view of the sea, through the use of sliding wooden screens.
